The House on Apalachee Takes Shape

It’s a beautiful thing to watch a drawing turn into a dwelling. Especially when so much intention and craft has gone into each phase of the project. The architect envisioned a beautiful and unique structure that would take full advantage of the site and the views. The homeowners chose finishes and details to make the home fit their taste exactly and Peter is in the midst of bringing all these ideas to life through sheer skill and fortitude.

This house is, in a word, HUGE. The ceilings are beyond high, the decks are beyond massive, the driveway is so beefy it makes the other suspended driveways in the neighborhood look like they’re made of Lincoln logs. It’s amazing to compare the house that was torn down to the one that is replacing it. Talk about longevity in structures. Tahoe may have some of the strictest building codes in the nation but the effect is new construction that will stand the test of time. In the old days, there were far fewer restrictions and rules, but if you drive through South Shore – you’ll see the result of that. Most of the structures are falling apart and would never pass code if they were built the same way today as they were back then.

Contractors in Tahoe are so in demand right now because so many houses and commercial buildings simply cannot be repaired any longer. They’re not built for the environment they have to endure. Many houses and buildings are being torn down and rebuilt completely. There’s simply no other option. Of course new construction comes with a big price tag but it’s also accompanied by property values that continue to outpace most of the country.

Investment in a custom home in a desirable town that is protected from too much growth (by the landscape and the laws) will always result in more value than was initially invested. This house will be a safe haven and a treasure to the owners – physically and financially.

With all the drywall complete, interior painting is up next, then flooring will be installed along with baseboard, window trim and wood planking on the ceilings of the upper level. The outside of the house will be stucco – which is uncommon in Tahoe and will make the house that much more unique. With all the dark wood fascia the stucco will provide a beautiful contrast and a contemporary look.

A grand addition to a beautiful neighborhood in a town known internationally for its majestic terrain – slowly but surely the structures in Tahoe are beginning to complement the landscape.
